Why Lloret

Lloret de Mar carries a reputation it doesn’t quite deserve. Yes, the seafront and Lloret Beach itself get loud in August, and yes, the strip pulls a particular kind of stag-and-hen crowd. But the town has 14 km of coastline either side of that strip, and most of it is the Costa Brava you came for: the Santa Clotilde Gardens (textbook Catalan noucentisme), the Castell d’en Plaja on its rocky outcrop, the Camí de Ronda coast path all the way to Tossa, and a handful of coves you can only reach on foot. Go in June or September and you’ll wonder where the reputation came from.

When to go

From May to October. If you’re here for the beach, July and August. If you want to walk the Camí de Ronda in good weather without the crowds, May and October are the best months — long days, sea still warm enough to swim, and the path almost to yourself.
